Saffeti Paşa Dervish Lodge
Project Details
It was built by Musa Saffet Pasha, the Minister of Foundations during the Tanzimat period. Despite the fact that there is no clear data on the year of construction, it is thought to have been built in the 1845s based on the couplet in Ziver Pasha's "Asar-ı Ziver Pasha Divan and Münşeat". The building complex, which was used as a dervish lodge until 1933, was used as a primary school until the 1970s and then as the General Directorate of Foundations Archive.
The building group in question consists of the dervish lodge building, outbuildings and Kamer Hatun Primary School. The masonry buildings have taken their present form by making irregular additions from time to time. The Dervish Lodge building is 836 m2 and consists of rubble stone walls, wooden floors, and a wooden hipped roof on 1 basement and 2 normal floors. The 140 m2 construction area of the sansbyan school and the 180 m2 construction area of the outbuilding consist of brick walls built on rubble stone garden walls, wooden floors and a wooden hipped roof.
Within the scope of the Restoration works, the original plan schemes and facade layouts of the buildings were reached with the traces revealed as a result of the research rasps. After cleaning the contaminated parts, cement-based plasters were removed from the masonry parts and repaired with the original mortar material. Highly damaged wooden roofs and decaying, unrecognizable floors were replaced, and those in good condition were improved and repaired. After the restoration and conservation works were completed, landscaping was also carried out. The building complex has been re-functionalized as a venue for exhibitions and cultural events.
