Born in the late 15th century or early 16th century and lived in Kastamonu, Şeyh Şaban Veli used the small mosque built before 1490 by Seyyid Ahmed Sünneti, who had been the representative of the Khalwati order in Kastamonu before him. The small mosque was expanded in 1580 by Şucaeddin Efendi, Sultan Murat III's mentor, and turned into today's Seyh Şaban Veli Mosque.

The building has been cleaned from the additions, the original sections have been restored, the minbar and pulpit, which are of high quality, have been conserved, the roof and minaret repairs have been completed and the project has been completed.
